Whether you are moving down the street or across the country, moving is always memorable. It can be a good memory or a bad memory. The key to a smooth move is planning appropriately.

Packing Tips

If you are going to pack yourself, here are some tips to insure that your belongings will be intact at your new destination.

General Tip

Put heavy items in small boxes and light items in larger boxes. Box weight should not exceed 50 lbs.

Pack breakables loosely with lots of bubble wrap.

Rent furniture pads to avoid scratches and damage if you are moving yourself.

Mark your boxes by room so you and the Movers will know exactly where each box should go.

Write “FRAGILE” in big bold letters on breakables and keep separately or on top of other boxes.

Large Items

Appliances – Empty and defrost the refrigerator and Freezer. Clean and pack moveable parts.

Beds – If you are responsible for breaking down the beds. Tie bed frames together with tape and label the pieces so they will be easy to reassemble.

Bureaus – You may leave clothes in drawers unless otherwise specified by your Mover
